I have had several people write to me requesting information of various
sorts. It's usually people looking for someone who knew a friend or relative
that was in Viet-Nam. More often than not I am unable to answer the inquires.
So, I decided to start this page in hopes that someone out there can supply
that information. (To those of you who wrote early on and I've lost the
request for information, I apologize. If you see this and write me, I'd
be more than happy to post it.)
If you have any questions about VN, send them to me and I'll be happy
to post them. Someone who knows the answer to your inquiry or knew your
friend or loved one, is likely to come by and write to you. (Let me know
when and if you want your query taken off the page.)
To those of you who know of good general resources (on the net or otherwise)
where people can find out about individuals that served in VN, please
let the rest of us know about them.

Hi my name is Chaz. B.
I was with the 118th A.S.L.T Hel Co out of Bien Hoa . In Sept 67
to I guess up to TET 68 , my Chopper Platoon worked with the Guys
from the 5TH Special Forces Compund right across the field from
us at Bien Hoa. I went on Missions with them but first we carried
them and went to a lot of Camps . Nui ba Den , and i was at Loc
Nihn for the Battle in OCT, NOV 67, and have flown to Song Bay when
they worked with the Yards up there on a Mission a couple of times.
One mission i remember that i would like to find out about or who
i worked with or what they where called anyway , i believe one Lieutenant
nickname was the (( Hulk)) he got hit and i pulled him and some
other guys out of Cambo in the middle of the night with a 100 ft
rope and i was hoping i wouldt drag him through the tops of the
Trees. We had loaded up the Equiptment at Bien Hoa went to the Border
set up camp the we flew to get the Cidg and i think they were Cambo
Mercinaries?? we where getting hit in the daytime once in awhile
. Anyway just like to know if anybody remembers that . Or who they
were. Also i went to pick up a lot of those Cambo at a fight in
Tay Nigh or someplace aroung there a lot of those guys where with
on that other misson and got shot up pretty bad , i did a lot of
work with those Men of the 5th Special out Bien Hoa . I just would
like to know what those missons were called and if somebody remembers
this . Thanks Chaz 118th Aslt Hel Co 67,68 69 also with the 68 Aslt

|Ist Force Reconnaissance need a bit of back up from the
I CORPS A-team members.
As you all know we have a page on Force Recon on the Gia Vuc website
as they pulled some time at G-V and other A camps http://www.gia-vuc.com/forcerecon.htm
One of their members Ray Rossi is trying to piece together their involvement
in the Operation Starlight which took place in September 1965 (which
has also been called the Battle for Chu Lai) and which took place
off the Batangan Penninsula.
Ist Force Reconnaissance operated out of
prior to Starlight.

from the above camps ,
time frame we are talking around APRIL 1965 to DECEMBER 1965.
So regarding Gia Vuc the relevant Teams are

Good day pardner;
I recently returned from a business trip to Saigon. This was my first time back since 1970 when I was an FO with 3rd bn 5TH Marines in SW of DaNang. Never having been to Saigon it was not the flashback time I remember from the....Well war stories who needs 'em.
I had a customer translator whose father was a translator for A431 Co. B 5th SFGA and had a letter of reference signed by A Lt Joe Beets the XO.
Nguyen Van Chan evidently did well for Lt. Beets and after we left spent a few years in the tiger cages then was able to find menial work to keep his family alive. He died 3 years ago of a stroke. His son, Now the district manager of Unilever, knowing I was a US Marine Vietnam Vet as is proudly displayed on a backpack patch gave the attached reference letter to see if Lt. Beets was still alive. He wants some more information on his father. The son, Nguyen Tri Than was born in 1978. Surprisingly 80% of all Vietnamese were born after 1975. He works in the Cu Chi Industrial park. How strange is that.
So lend an old Marine a hand and see what you can unearth.
I have contacts in the Corps big Brother was a Colonel after Khe Sanh mustanger but have no SFG contacts.

I served with the 5th Special Forces C Team in Nha Trang in the set up stage from November 1962 -63 and have often wondered what happened to the people I served with. I did find Estep on this web site and learned that he returned as the leader of an A team but nothing more. Unfortunately, as I grow older I can only remember a first or last name in many cases or I can't remember the spelling of a name. If anyone would like to get in touch with me please feel free to do so; this includes anyone from the 7th at Fort Bragg. I would love to know how your time in Vietnam impacted your later life. My Vietnam experience greatly influenced my career choice and experiences. I have nothing but respect for our military, especially Special Forces.

Hello my name is Ruben L. Arriaga I’m the TM SGT for ODA 5315 formally ODA 575.
I’m trying to track down anybody who returned from Vietnam and had their ODA reflagged to ODA 571. I’m trying to track down the history of my ODA, as I know it when it returned from Vietnam it was reflagged to ODA 571, then in the early 80’s it was changed to ODA 575 (because it was a dive team) then in 2007 it was changed to ODA 5315.
What I’m unsure of is if when everybody returned (in the early 70’s) if there really wasn’t any set teams more of a group of guys and then they formed battalions then ODA’s. If you could help me I would really appreciate it. This is my personal email firstname.lastname@example.org and my army email is email@example.com thank you.

|Hello, my name is Robin Brown Lefotu. My father, William E. Brown served with the 5th Special Forces Group. He was one of the original members of SF. I'm looking for anyone who may have served with him or known him. Could you possibly help? His nickname was Buster. Thank you, Robin Lefotu
My name is Lisa Lark and I am a teacher at Edsel Ford high school in Dearborn, MI .
I am also a historian and writer. This Memorial Day, I was very moved by a service that our school holds to remember the young men that we lost in Vietnam. This service has moved me to begin work on a book about the men that the city of Dearborn, Michigan lost during this horrific war. Our city lost nearly 70 young men in this war at a rate of twice the national average.
In my research, I found records that show Spc. John C. Wells served with Det B-50, C Co, 5th SF Grp, Special Forces and died in a vehicle accident on 3/22/68.
I was wondering if there was a way I could get in touch with those who may have served with or known Spc. Wells during his time in Vietnam. Thank you very much for your time. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, and to pass along my email as needed.
Sincerely, Lisa Lark
