281st Assault Helicopter Company, 5th Special Forces Group, Nha Trang.

Comments: I was a pilot in the 2nd Flight Platoon ("Delta Air"), 281st Assault Helicopter Company. The 281st is the only aviation unit that was assigned to the 5th Special Forces during the Vietnam War. We regularly flew every type of Special Forces mission, including regular missions with Delta, Recondo, Mike, SOG, et. al. I personally recall having flown on various Delta missions, Recondo School Missions, and at least one SOG mission to raid a POW camp(Operation Rayburn Cane III).
The 281st Assault Helicopter Company was the first Special Operations Aviation Unit in the World, and is the predecessor of the current U.S. Army special operations active duty aviation regiment -- the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, known as the "Night Stalkers."
