Comments: "James Warren Smith from Texas was killed August 23, 1968 at Dar Lac, South Viet Nam. He was killed saving the life of Linwood Hughes, from North Carolina. Mr. Hughes searched more than 30 years and came to Texas to then Sgt. Smith's mother for raising such a hero. I have a picture of Sgt Smith's cross at the national cemetery in San Antonio. I would love to share the picture with you. He is buried under a beautiful old tree and I know he is at rest. He was such a caring person and many people were touched by his life."
Sincerely, Linda Burns

Update: "Lynwood Huges, found me thru a military site. He had been searching for Warren's family since 1968. He has now been reunited with Warren's mom, Mrs. Smith. It helped him so much to be able to thank her for raising her son the way she did.

Mr. Hughes says that heroes are began at home in a loving family. Warren's life has touched so many. He was on his second tour of Vietnam. He was going to be a doctor, but did not get a chance to finish his studies, but he has "doctored" many souls before and since his death at DarLac."
