Comments: Transferred to SF from 101st Spring 1962. After Training Group, was assigned Co A 5th SFG Oct 1962 (just before Cuban Missile Crisis). My first few weeks in A Co were "in quarantine as back up" to Bay of Pigs. Col Smith was my CO. During this period, the 5th was rotating companies q 6 months in and out of Nam. The 5th had just added "D" Company and Because Teams from A Co. were just coming back from Nam, it would be nearly 2 years before the next teams from A Co would deploy. Thus, I spent the next 2 years training in my PMOS, sub-speciality and Vietnamese classes. After all this, ETS came--I had the option of getting out, OCS or helicopters-- prevented a 6 month tour--- I did not re-enlist. After leaving the 5th, I went to college and then medical school.
Presently, I am a physician living in SE USA .
