The Jarai Montagnards conduct a yearly Hua Psat "Celebration of the Dead", Usually the Village will sacrifice a Water Bufflalo to the dead. The Hua Psat is mainly a happy affair. Immediately following the families paying their respect to the dead, they drink copious amounts of rice or corn wine. The playing of the Gongs is constant while the people dance around the grave site. The Hua Psat can last for a couple of days. This occasion ables the young single men and women from different villages to meet. Nine months later there is an increase in new born babies. The Hua Psats are usually conducted in March after the rice and corn harvest. |
