The man on the right is ODA-226 Team Leader Capt. James L. Zachary. Capt. Zachary, years later Commanded the 10th SFG at Fort Devens, MA. Capt. Zachary was a fine Team Leader.
Gen. Westmoreland visited Trai Mai Linh sometime in 1966. He said, "I want a briefing on combat patrols in your area." What I believe, is that he was really taking a look at the FULRO situation [ Montagnard Uprising] . Phu Bon was the seed of the last Montagnard uprising in 1965 when they killed a whole load of Vietnamese. As seen in the photo the Canton Chief is awarding the General the traditional brass bracelet after the rice wine ceremony. The
General was very gracious to the chiefs and they always talked about how the met the great commander. I spoke with Gen. Westmoreland at the Los Vegas Convention and he remembered that day.
