Detachment A-231, 1st SFGA

A-231, commanded by Capt Viau, was located at Kannack, Binh Dinh province, II CTZ, during the period 16 October 1964 through 21 Apri1 1965. On the night of 8 March 1965, the camp successfully repulsed an attack by two hardcore Viet Gong battalions, killing 119 of the attackers and capturing large quantities of arms and equipment. For his part in the action, Capt Viau has been awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. (8)**
