Detachment A-224, 1st SFGA

A-224, commanded by Capt Popham, was located at Duc Co, Pleiku Province, II GTZ, during the period 6 November 1964 -30 April 1965. The Detach mission was to advise, equip and train GIDG companies, and to conduct surveillance operations along the Vietnam-Laotian border. On the Detachment's arrival at Duc Co, the camp defenses were approximately 45 percent completed. During the following six months, the Detachment not only completed the defenses, but also conducted numerous long range combat operations along the border.**
