* "The 281st Assult Helicopter Company was the primary helicopter support for B-52 Project DELTA, MACV-RECONDO and 5th SFG-SFOB at Nha Trang. Our unit was the first to be attached to 5th SFG and probably the first Army Helicopter unit to train and develop Special Operations techniques and procedures. We were the only Army Helicopter unit to be OPCON to 5th SFG. All others were only in a Direct Support relationship. We were part of B-52. We are authorized to wear the 5th SFG patch as our Combat Patch."
Bob Mitchell** "The 281st Assault Helicopter Company was the first Special Operations Aviation Unit in the World, and is the predecessor of the current U.S. Army special operations active duty aviation regiment -- the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, known as the 'Night Stalkers.' "
