The Protected Will Never Know
Tan Phu: SF Team A-23 in Combat
Assault on Dak Pek

For maps and information about Vinh Thanh "...see SFC Leigh Wade's book 'The Protected Will Never Know'. He was one of the original A-Team members to open the camp and describes the first 6 months or so. He describes relieving team A-122 at Tuy Phouc, preparing that camp for use by ROK forces, loading the CIDG up in trucks and traveling down Highway 14 with a huge 1st Cav escort and up the dirt road into the "Happy Valley" to open camp Vinh Thanh.

Leigh Wade "...is known to be reliable at telling events truthfully and accurately, and his writing style is relaxed and enjoyable. Sgt. Wade's team was TDY from the 1st Group at the time the camp was opened. Several months later he was transferred to the 5th and started working with C-5- Special Recon, and later with B-56 Project Sigma at Ho Ngoc Tao when C-5 was turned into "Greeks"(Omega & Sigma) he left before they were absorbed by SOG, so he wasn't officially in SOG, but still was one of the original Special Recon pioneers."*
